One of the most fundamental laws which has been proven more by experience than by experimental results is what is called the "law of diminishing returns". And this is what the standard definition of the law might look like on the web :
Sometimes referred to as variable factor proportions, law of diminishing returns states that as equal quantities of one variable factor are increased, while other factor inputs remain constant, ceteris paribus, a point is reached beyond which the addition of one more unit of the variable factor will result in a diminishing rate of return and the marginal physical product will fall
It is common knowledge that the second lick of an ice-cream is not as good as the first and the third is not as good as the second(things might not seem to follow the pattern once one comes to the come but that is a different story ).In effect the law states that the more we have of some desirable entity its utility (the satisfaction we draw out of it) diminishes till we reach a point where we regret possessing the stuff in the first place.
Though such stuff might make for interesting reading , a very pertinent issue for such a law is its validity across people and their experiences. For example, have you ever thought if this law would be applicable to your most valued relationship?Your relationship with the person you love the most?Haven't you noticed (if you have bothered enough to notice that is) that after the initial excitement (if you know what i mean :) ) following your wedding and the few mandatory promises of being together till the last breath of life, things begin to appear insipid? The romantic relationship that you once shared with the person you promised you would stand by ,in due course of time, seems to plateau off. The basis of the relationship changes from "love" to "understanding" and then from "understanding" to a mature "compromise". In many cases the basis itself gives way and the relationship falls apart.
People may argue , though, that if the involved parties want to keep things going then the law could actually be kept at bay. But such people while delivering such opinion are carried away more by excitement because they are in love themselves or because they just have to make a point. Despite all the good intentions of people to keep their romantic relationship always full of life, priorities change. At some stage one's career takes over and then they got a family to mail look after. It becomes increasingly difficult to deliver on the promises which you no longer even remember you made.
The best thing to do is to allow things to take their natural course and agree to a compromise rather that regretting the absence of romance and allowing the relationship to fall apart. Compromises are not made by the weak. The weak struggle or fight to destroy themselves. A compromise requires immense mental strength and tenacity. It is always a decision that the wise arrive at when things don't appear all that good.
Hope people are wise enough to compromise. All hail the law !!

Reminded by chance
Isn't it absolutely amazing how we tend to associate particular situation and events in life with a certain song or sometimes odour. And the most amazing thing is that all this is done by the subconscious self. We often ourselves get surprised how an otherwise insipid song can bring cascading back to memory a certain imagery connected with one's past life.
For instance, the other day I was listening to the song "hai junoon" from the movie New York.
I did so after a very long time actually. The very first chord that I heard brought back to memory and made me almost instantly relive the moments prior to my trip to NY (I had gone to NY after watching the movie by the same name). Yes, i did relive all the anxieties and nervous prior to a trip that by far has been the longest and the most eventful in my life. I guess that explains why life can never be truly boring 'coz u never know what you are in for

सौतन से परेशान :"Jhansi ki Rani" vs "Billo Rani"
Friends, I was not allowed to make this post in F-Bhasad ,hence, I had to launch it here. For all of us that that like chatpata news here is something that can easily be digested. It has been observed that our friend Juju (widely believed to have warmed hathi's [Tharwani] bed several times) has been restless since the day he learnt that Sandeep had turned infidel (bewafaa) by sleeping with "billo rani". Kindly refer to the "Hathi hua billi ka shikar episode on F-Bhasad" . News is to be had that juju is not on talking terms with Sandeep and has become rather grumpy. Indeed it has been a sad week for juju after losing his trusted lover(hathi) to a creature belonging to a different species.
बेवफाई का शिकार
But juju ne haar nahin maani hai. After all (s)he is our "Jhansi Ki Rani". Juju wants to win back his Pyaar at all cost. To this end we found out that juju has been learning swimming to give the "billi" a run for her money.Juju has also been dressing up provocatively to turn into the "ultimate seductress"(though "hathi" doesn't need seducing). The reason for such drastic change in behaviour became apparent yesterday when Juju saw his सौत sleeping on one of the windows of G Hostel and his anger knew no bounds. God help "billo rani" now.
.
कैसी लग रही हूँ मैं??

हाई रे मेरी फूटी किस्मत
"Hathi", thoough, seems to be enjoying all the attention . He has no regrets for his act of extreme bewafaai.Infact he is even contemplating a divorce. His libido knows no bounds and he now plans to bed a snake that is reportedly doing its rounds in F hostel. Things are not getting any easy for you Juju. Good Luck!!

My Friend Juju
Well lemme introduce my friend Juju to you. Juju is my class mate. He was among the 1st persons i met here and at 1st look there was nothing extraordinary or abnormal about him though he smiled and laughed at the silliest happenings.Over the years he has developed into a very good friend. For those that know juju what i am gonna write here will merely substantiate your perspective of juju. For those who dont, well, they are in for a surprise for juju is one of those amazing creatures born alomost by a terrible mistake by destiny into a anomaly called mankind. To begin with Juju is amongst the most refined conversationalist. While mouthing foul language is almost bread and butter for engineering students juju would refrain from committing himself into such verbal outbursts unless ,ofcourse, he is desperately trying to drive home a point in which case he may break his sagehood. He never vents his spleen. The best he will do (when he is angry) is make weird facial gestures and not look at you (all for a couple of minutes). He is a computer geek with an amazing ability to circumvent any problem with repeated attempts.
And whats more he always held his principles very high(atleast till 2006). It was the physics class in the 1st year and while most of us were bored listening to the soporific lecture, juju was up to something. He made a paper plane--one that he thought would disobey all laws of aerodynamics and traverse a non-protectile motion and eventually hit me. As it turned out in its maiden flight "JUJU 707" twisted and turned and whirled to land straight at the teacher's feet. She was furious. She turned back and asked us to own up.All of us sat quietly since we knew none would dare to do so. All of a sudden i saw some movement at my back. It was juju . His face had grown pale, his forehead wrinkled and lips dry. His body was making slow upward movements and any fool would know who the culprit was if he threw a glance at juju.I looked at him and wondered "What on earth is he up to? Why the hell does want to own up?". I was hoping against hope that he didnt stand up. In the end wisdom prevailed and he did not. The epilogue to the story came after the class when i asked him why he had wanted to stand up. He said he thought the teacher would forgive him if he was truthful!! That's how innocent (if not outright idiotic) juju is.Thats not all. More of juju's adventure are coming up in the next few posts.....

Internships
There are always two ways of looking at things. One way to look at internships is to see it as a burden deliberately designed by institutes to make u work in the summers which you think is a resting time that you have earned by working hard (subject to disagreement) during the working sessions. The other way is to look at it as a learning experience, an opportunity to learn what really goes on in the corporate world and fnd out how good you are at it. I belonged to the former category till i actually did my internship this summer in a leading investment bank. One would wonder what technology has to do in a bank. But large organizations need technologists to handle there massive databases among other things. So there i was this summer in India's silicon valley to familiarize myself with the "real world". As there are a very few things that i have seriously completed in life(though i start everything with vigor) I had set my expectations low. It was the 5th of may when i started the internship and my word what a lovely journey it was. The first day was full of greetings and good feelings and i was made to feel an integral part of the firm. And whats more we had free accommodation for the first week and i lived life king-size.There were interns from other colleges also and having people of your age in a strange place is something everyone craves for. I made some really nice friends. Every day was filled with the anticipation of something challenging coming my way. At the same time there was a lot of fun to be had.We used to play fooze every afternoon and it almost became an obsession. The team that i worked with was very young, friendly and supporting . They were senitive to my weaknesses and allowed to learn a pace i found most comfortable. They had great faith in my abilities(though i never figured out why).I was allowed to handle meetings on my own which honestly gave me a lot of confidence. The people in the firm were very professional in their dealings and i gradually imbibed the firm's culture. The weekends were extra-special. We used to have something planned out every weekend be it an outing, go-carting, bowling or going to a pub(though i went there just once). As interns we were made to go to fun places in the out skirts of Bangalore which were truly memorable. We never got tired pulling each other's leg.Towards the later part of the stay though it started to get more seriouos with us having to wind up the projects that we had been assigned.A final presentaion marked the ending of our project and most of us ended up getting job offers from the firm.
Our farewell night was amazing. I danced like there was no tomorrow. At the end of the internship i was satisfied with the fact that I had finally done something substantial, some thing that was of some use to someone else.I would've missed a great deal if i had not interned.
They say success comes when preparation meets opportunity. So when opportunity knocks on the door- take it. You wont regret it later.

God's own country
There is something fascinating about kerala. There is just far too much greenery.I was out on a trek today (if you call walking up an down a rugged terrain a trek) . It was just amazing. The weather was great. What really caught my attention was the amazing variety of fauna. There were at least 2 birds i saw today that i had not seen in the past-- a very soothing experience indeed. The jungle was reminiscent of many of the stuff dreams are made up of. Whats more i was accompanied by a photography maniac and a kid from hilly lands -- ( both were equally engrossed in the beauty that surrounded us). The calm was something that's rather rare these days. I feel rejuvenated. Although that does little to lessen the burden of having to go through many tests as our exams are just round the corner. A welcome change nonetheless.....
